The information below comes from a November 11 article in The Intercept by Micha Lee about the ADL calling demonstrations about the war on Gaza as "anti-Israel" or "antisemitic." Links to the original stories can be found in the article.
Here's the relevant question: How much of this did you know? How much of this American Jewish opposition to the war on Gaza did you hear about? And if you haven’t heard about it, was that because you missed it - or because it wasn’t reported amid a mainstream media script of “Israeli self-defense against the terrorists?”
October 13: A group of 15 Jews occupied the Seattle office of Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), demanding that she support a ceasefire and the US stop arming Israel while the country has “openly declared their intention to commit war crimes.” Six were arrested.
October 13: Thousands of Jews shut down the street outside the Brooklyn home of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), demanding that he support a ceasefire. Dozens of Jews were arrested, including rabbis and the descendants of Holocaust survivors.
October 16: Over 1,000 Jews and their allies blockaded entrances to the White House, demanding that Biden support a ceasefire. At least 30 were arrested.
October 18: Several thousand Jews and their allies marched on the US Capitol calling for a ceasefire. Roughly 500 Jews, including 25 rabbis, were arrested,
October 19: Jews protested outside the Los Angeles home of Vice President Kamala Harris, demanding that she support a ceasefire.
October 23: Hundreds of Jews protested outside the office of Rep. Troy Carter, D-La., in New Orleans demanding that he support a ceasefire, and a group of Jews occupied his office.
October 27: Several thousand Jews and their allies shut down the main terminal of Grand Central Station during rush hour in New York City, demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. About 400 people were arrested, including rabbis.
November 6: Hundreds of Jews and their allies took over the Statue of Liberty, calling for a ceasefire.
Years ago, someone, I don’t recall who, observed that “Those who deal in vengeance tend to become what they hate.” It’s a lesson successive Israeli governments have forgotten. Happily or perhaps better hopefully, not everyone has.
